Tabloid Warm Hugs

February 5, 2010

Think what you will about tabloids and how mindless they are, but the true is they are far from mindless. I woke up yesterday morning to drive my friend’s daughter to school and my tire was completely flat. Last Thursday my phone was shut off while i was trying to call a debt collector. I have panic attacks. As inconvenient as these events sound, when they happen to me, they escalate to another level. What gets me through these episodes of craziness is a warm hug from my favorite tabloid. I’ve learned to speed read from tabloids. I’ll sit down with Tabby and I’ll go of into a space of comfort, happiness and gratification. So all of you out there that think you are so cool with your medical marijuana obviously have not spent a moment of bliss with a tabloid.

War on Women

January 28, 2010

This is a tribute to a topic featured on Jane Velez Mitchell.

Women are being attacked and killed at an alarming number. There is no safe place, from seedy street corners to home invasions in the suburbs, women are being attacked, raped and killed every day. We as women are told to look over our shoulder, don’t aggravate weirdos, keep your information private, don’t walk alone, don’t go out at night, don’t drink, don’t talk to anyone because if you do you are just asking to be violated. Women are raised with fear, so much so that the fear is a natural part of life and we run on auto pilot taking precautions. We hear on the news so often that something seriously horrible happened again to another woman and we don’t take time to sit and really think about it. With woman being slaves to their own security, taking every precaution and still being attacked,  I think it’s time we focus on what the real problem is. Were are these predators coming from? Who raised the monsters and why have they been able to slip through the cracks of society and enabled to commit acts of violence repeatedly against women? We need to be publicizing mens mental health problems and the dysfunctional justice system. Women are attacked and held responsible for their safety. It’s time these predators are exposed and change is made in the way we address violence against women.

Dog rescue inspires humanity

January 22, 2010

If you have not seen the heart warming story of the dog being rescued out of the L.A. river, I’m going to give it to you in an emotional nut shell. The dog was trapped in the rising waters of the Los Angeles river, near Central Station, Down town for nearly two hours in freezing water. The Los Angeles Fire Department sprang in to action to try to save the dog. This poor dog was feezing and scared and every moment the water was rising. A fire fighter lowered himself down and got ahold of the dog and secured him to the rescue line. This fire fighter took several hard bites from the scared dog while trying to secure him. Instead of reacting, the fire fighter took the bites in stride and remained focused on rescuing the dog. The L.A.F.D put the dog in an ambulance and took him to the vet. (oxygen mask over his little face and all) Okay, here comes the emotional part, I got teary eyed watching the rescue, I started to cry when I saw the brave fire man taking the dogs bites knowing that the dog is scared and helpless. I felt so proud of the city and our fire department for going to great lengths for the rescue. I’m thinking, you know we see all these horrible things about how terrible our world is, and then you see something like this that reminds us that people are naturally driven to do good. If we didn’t see stories like this from time to time, we would lose those moments that remind us that there is a lot of good in people.
